REGAL SEALS

This is an embossed letterhead. I think the type works perfectly with the image that brand is trying to represent. The colour scheme works in harmony with the product and generally gives a very professional yet welcoming feel to it, as if it is a family business. I like that they havent been all flowery and excentric which is what you might expect from something 'regal'. The designers have rounded the edges to give it a more contemporary feel to it.

AIRPORT ADVERTISING

I think this is great, i love it when graphic designers slightly alter your mundane symbols to create something that is humorous and more engaging. Its a clever use of lines and there is no colour needed. Simplicity is the key when designing travel symbols, they need to be universally understood and everyone can relate and recognise what they represent which is very important.

for TIM KEY

Designed for the Edinburgh Fringe festival, this is a brochure designed for the comedian Tim Key. I really like style of the print work, i think the design is interesting and its nice to see comedians taking more interest in how they publicise themselves instead of just printing of some cak handed flyer.

I really cannot stand this style of illustration. the piece is too grany. I really don't like the blue thats been used. The angles are too sharp, and it just seems to me to be quite pretencious. I just reminds me of budget christmas cards that an older not quite with it relative might send you at christmas. I screams cheap, and uninteresting.

GRAFIK - new edition cover.

Now i am an avid fan of grafik magazine and what it produces, but for some reason i really cannot stand this front cover. I am all up for geometric patterns and splash colour, however i just dont think this works. I dont like the use of colour and i don't think there is anything that special about the pattern itself. It isn't that visually engaging and to be honest quite bland. The symmetry is the only real thing going for it to be honest. I don't like the type being used on the front either, i just dont think the type face goes with the image that well and i think if they had that much faith in the image they should have just left it with the grafik title and let it lye.

SNOOK.

I really like this layout and design. type and image at its simplest and most effective. the space within the book is used effectively. This is very good for a shoe magazine, there's nothing much going on about it, it has a childish look but created for an adult. its interesting to look at and to hold, with various dimensions going on.

CHRISTINE BERRIE - CONSUME - TIME OUT MAGAZINE

I like the idea of the piece and i think it speaks volume for the column and the magazine itself. However, i like my illustration work to be simple, using a mixture of lines and making it intricate. I cannot stand the use of pencil crayon its just a pet hate of mine, especially when you can see the direction lines. I think the book itself is good, but i cant stand the background. With crayons you need to know when to stop. for me it just feels very childish.

An embossed letter head. I love this style of work, i never really realised how much detail you could actually achieve with embossing type. But the intricate design really speaks for itself. It also creates another dimention to the piece instead of flat printing. This is something i would like to try in the future.

STADE DE FRANCE - RUGBY TEAM

Stade de france is an amazing rugby team, filled with some of the biggest rugby players to have ever played the game. However, they are dressed RIDICULOUSLY. Whoever decided to dress a load of butch and built men in florescent pink and then putting intricate and beautiful designs on the must have been having a laugh. The designs themselves you can't fault but its all about the context in which the design is used which makes them completely redundant. I have never laughed as much watching these men play professional rugby, tackling each other left right and center dressed in what can only be described as the most outrageous and embarrassing team kit. The other team must have had a field day. Don't get me wrong i agree in making a statement, but this time it was allllllllll wrong.

LE PRINTEMS DE SEPTEMBRE - a toulouse.

advertising board created to advertise the up and coming contemporary arts festival in toulouse. Very interesting design, unique concept similar mapping technique to the london underground using colours to show designated areas. Like the branches affect, it makes the board very visually engaging and beautiful to look at.

PIXEL

this is an amazing short motion filmging depicting a city being attacked by all our old and favorite pixilated games. I think it is so cleveraly worked and very interesting to look at. They have thought of every angle and it really pays off. I love how the cars turn into pixels and then suddenly collapses and how suddenly the fountain starts shooting pixelated water. Its such a great combination of real footage and worked images. Clever piece of graphic design.

KOA

I love the work produced by Koa. The illustrative style really appeals to me. He does a lot of work that is screen based and produces products that are collectable, very similar to Tristan Eaton. I really like the different takes on the coat of arms. The varying block colouring really leads to a visually engaging piece of work.

STEFAN MARX
really interesting way of mixing up type and image. Not always legible. very friendly type face, very open and round. When reading some sentences invokes pitiful emotion, you feel sorry for whoever wrote the sentences. Not 100% sure whether i like the houses, used as a 'U' etc. Not really sure what its all about. Interesting use of colour.

UNIQLO//GROTESK

Two artists coming together to create a unique clothing range. Interesting and vibrant tees. Love the different style and the block colouring/lettering. Simple messages. My favorite is the pen, i think it works really well. All styles are interesting and visually engaging.

SHUFFLEART

Very functional, very attractive, shuffle and nano skins. Shuffleart designs individual skins that wrap around your iPod in order to protect it from wear and tear. Except instead of it being some crappy plastic cover its got an amazing intricate design all over it. There's such a variety floating around with them, i love the style i think its fascinating and i think i am going to try and get my hands on one. The artists like to incorporate a variety of different styles into their designs, some just text some just image and some a mixture of both.

HOTEL FOX

this is one of my favorite graphic design projects EVER. IT IS AMAZING. 66 different rooms, 22 different graphic designers/illustrators 1000 different styles, all trapped inside the hotel rooms. Each room is unique to that artist. it is so personal and i have never seen anything like it before. It is such a unique idea. I love the varying different styles theres no continuity that runs throughout the rooms. there is a mixture of line drawing mixed with full flavored colour and simple black and white. No two rooms are the same, which makes your stay there so much more personal. The effort that has gone into creating this hotel is astounding.

MATCH.COM
Although i cant actually stand the adverts, and what they advertise. They do have a very good branding technique. By using fairly neutral colours, blue and pink both to represent each gender they relate the the specific sexes. this makes advertising easier as they can blend the two colours together signifying that both colours work together, and that in turn both 'you and him' will work together well too. By not adding too much detail to the people used in the adverts it makes it easier for the view to imagine themselves as that person which again draws them in.
Im not 100% sure why the woman is in green, when they have used pink on their website, that can make it a bit confusing. If your having a restricted colour palette work with that and dont deviate otherwise it loses its continuity.

PUB
Pub posters. There is nothing special about them. However, they are such a common feature in all pubs they are immediately recognisable by anyway. Its a certain conditioning that has happened to people that when they se this sign, they know theres an offer or something special going on. the graphic design isn't interesting but that recognisable style is fundamental to pubs and how they advertise their food/drinks offers etc.

I really love this style of work. Simple illustrations, with a simple message and screen printed. I am really branching out with screen printing, it is something that i really enjoy and i think that it just gives another depth to image instead of just printing it straight off. When somethings screen printed it gives it a very personal edge, you know someone has spent hours working on it.
This work has been created as part of a project, purely used to entertain. there is no hidden message, which makes it work that much better because what you see is what you get, and you don't have to look at it and decipher some hidden meaning.
